Who we are

Palatine Community Baseball and Softball (PCBS) was formed in September 2018 when the PYBS and PBA affiliates voted to merge their operations.

PCBS is an affiliate of the Palatine Park District. Our organization is staffed completely by VOLUNTEERS. The volunteers provide Palatine and its surrounding communities with the opportunity to participate in youth baseball and softball.  For baseball we offer programs from age 5 through age 18.  Covering programs from T-ball through Colt.  For softball we offer programs from age 6 (1st grade) up through adult.  Covering programs from NCAA Div III through the Women’s Division. Our volunteers coordinate operations for over 2200 games on 29 different fields during a season.

Board meetings are held the second Thursday of every month. Anyone is welcome to attend Board meetings. If you wish to address the Board, please email the Secretary of PCBS, at PCBS_secretary@pcbs.fun , to be placed on the agenda and to confirm the time and location of our next meeting. PCBS is always in need of more volunteers to help. Please volunteer to make a difference in the community.  No experience in baseball or softball necessary, we have rolls similar to a typical company in communications, finance, operations, communications, etc.

Organization Philosophy

PCBS is structured to gradually introduce competition to young boys and girls as they grow and mature as players. From ages 5-8 we do not keep score or maintain standings. Emphasis is placed on fundamentals and letting children learn how much fun playing baseball and softball can be. Beginning at age 9 scoring, standings and playoffs are introduced. However, the focus throughout PCBS is teaching fundamentals, giving all children opportunities to play key positions and most importantly letting the players enjoy the game!  At older ages, our leagues maintain a fun competitive atmosphere which includes uniforms, playing partnerships with neighboring towns and certified IHSA umpires.  Some of our older leagues also offer all-star games and post season tournaments.

The Board of PCBS recognizes that striving to win is an important, even vital part of sports as children get older. But we emphatically believe that no efforts in striving to win should be made at the expense of the athlete's well-being, development and enjoyment, nor should the spirit of the game ever be compromised. Please remember that the challenge and joy of the sport is experienced through striving to win, not through winning itself.
