Umpire with the PCBS!

PCBS umpires have the opportunity to work baseball and softball games in Palatine and occasionally surrounding communities.  We have umpire opportunities available for ages 14 (by May 1, 2025) and older, including adults.  Opportunities for new and experienced officials.  We assign games for recreation and travel teams, from age 9 up to 18 (high school).

New umpires, interested in knowing more?  We provide you with training during a 5 week period in February and March.  Once training is complete, we will provide you with all equipment for a $75 deposit. The deposit is returned when equipment is received back at end of season.  You will need to supply dark colored shoes, and dark colored loose fitting pants.  New umpires generally start with our youngest baseball and softball leagues (3rd and 4th grades).  Your instructor will be available throughout season for questions to help.  Games in the spring and summer are scheduled daily.  The run time for a game varies, in general you should plan for 2 hours.

Returning umpires, plan to attend the specific training night for the league(s) you intend to work to review rules.  For all returning officials, you do not need to complete the application process again.  We will contact you via Horizon Web Ref early in 2025.

IHSA Patched umpires, you do not need to attend the training sessions, make sure to download the latest league rules from the pcbs/downloads page.

We are currently redoing the hiring process for 2025.  Please do not use any old park district links.  If you would like to join our crew or have any questions, email umpires@pcbs.fun.
