Varsity Softball

Learn teamwork and foster a love of the sport of softball through this competitive league.

Ages	7th and 8th grade (for the most recent school year)
Games	12 games per season. Concludes with playoffs and a Championship game.
Cost	$245.00 base price for Palatine residents
Commitment	Teams will meet 2-3 times per week for games and/or practices.

LEAGUE INFORMATION

Varsity is a competitive league with combined ages.
Teams are drafted by the team managers based on player ratings gathered from a player’s previous year coach. If your player did not play PCBS in the previous year, they are required to attend our ratings day and be graded by a panel. (An email invite will be sent with the time and location of ratings day after registration if your player needs to attend.)
Wins and losses are recorded, standings are published, and the season ends with playoffs.
The season will also have an All-Star game on Championship Weekend. All-Star participants will be voted on by each teams’ players.
Practice time slots are 1 hour long. Games are 7 innings with a 1:40 next inning becomes last.
An inning is complete after a team gets 3 outs or scores 4 runs. The trailing team is allowed to “catch-up” and score more than 4 until they are within one run. The final inning is unlimited.
After hitting 3 batters, the pitcher must be pulled if the inning. If a pitcher hits a total of 4 batters, she must be pulled for the rest of the game.
Pitchers may only throw 3 innings per game.
All infield players must wear a fielders mask on defense.
Each player must play 2 innings in the infield (including pitcher) and 2 innings in the outfield (including catcher).
Batters and runners may advance on a batted ball until the ball is returned to the pitching circle.
Players may steal any base.
Players may not steal if their team is ahead by 10 or more runs.
Mercy rule: Any team up by 10 or more runs after the fifth will win the game.
Intentional walks, bunting, infield fly, look back, and dropped 3rd strike rules are in effect.
Bases are 60’ apart; 84’10” Home to 2nd base; Pitchers mound is 40’.
Bats must be USA Softball certified.
Players will use a 12” ball.
