The application period has closed. PCBS umpire training for the 2026 Spring Baseball and Softball season has started.

Umpires officiate baseball and softball games in Palatine and surrounding communities, working recreation and travel games for players from 2nd grade through high school.

All required umpire equipment is provided with a $75 refundable deposit
Umpires must supply dark shoes and dark, loose-fitting pants
Games are scheduled throughout the spring and summer and typically last about 2 hours

Application Deadline: Wednesday, February 11, 2026 (passed)

IHSA-patched umpires may apply after the deadline by contacting us directly at umpires@pcbs.fun.

PCBS UMPIRE INFORMATION

UMPIRE OPPORTUNITIES BY EXPERIENCE LEVEL

New Umpires

Free 5-week training in February & March with ongoing support throughout the season
Training includes rules, mechanics, and on-field instruction
Most new umpires begin with younger leagues

Returning PCBS Umpires

No application required for the 2026 season
Attend league-specific training night(s) to review rules

IHSA-Patched & Provisional Umpires

IHSA-Patched Umpires

Training sessions are not required

IHSA Provisional License (Ages 15–16)

Provisional licensing is accepted
Please contact your PCBS assigner

Dates: February 9 – March 11
Baseball training: Monday nights
Softball training: Wednesday nights

Pay rates for 2026 are listed below:

Bronco / Majors Softball	$50
Mustang / Stallion	$45
